Latest Blog from Jackie Gardner at SmartPaws Dog Training Club

“It’s been a while since I wrote my last blog but my laptop decided to die on me and then our wifi decided to join in, but all well now!

“Things at SmartPaws Dog Training Club have been very busy and all of our classes are currently full. The handlers and dogs training with us are all doing brilliantly and moving through the classes nicely and I’ve got a new batch of beginners keen to teach their dogs how to do agility.

“One of my new ladies told me her dog was a natural and would find this agility lark easy. Unfortunately her dog had no recall when there were other dogs about, so she spent all evening trying to get her dog to come to her. If you watch agility dogs and their handlers running courses, it does look very easy, but what you don’t see is the years of work that have gone into making them what they are.

“On a personal not, my own dog, Bertie Boy, has been doing really well in his training and has recently qualified for some semi-finals being held at the Kennel Club Festival, and if he qualifies he will get to compete in the huge finals arena at Olympia. He really is taking me on a journey, which has lots of bumps and hard places, but when we get to the good parts, it’s amazing, and I just love training my boy.

“SmartPaws Dog Training Club and all of our members would like to thank VetSpec for supplying us with our new Club polo shirts. We wore them for the first time on Saturday 11th July 2015 because as a club we were helping out at a big Championship show. We received lots of complimentary comments about our tops and lots of people asking who or what VetSpec is. I tell everyone all about the products from VetSpec. We use VetSpec Joint Mobility on all of our dogs which helps them be so fast and agile, but also helps our 17 year-old lead a very active life.

“We then had a Crufts Team Qualifier on the Sunday and all members running in the teams wore their new tops. They are now our ‘lucky tops’ as we won the class and have now qualified for Crufts! So if you are visiting Crufts next March, do come along and cheers us on in the Large Dog Team Finals.

“Our agility year is working out to be a really good one, and I have another final with Bertie Boy on Saturday 18th July in a Power and Speed Tournament. So wish me luck!

“We then have the Kennel Club International Festival in August where we have the Olympia Semi-finals, plus we will be trying to qualify for the Novice Cup and Crufts Individuals. So lots of fun ahead.”
